March is here, the sun is shining, yet its freezing cold. Spring is just around the corner and the clocks go forward towards the end of the month.
February 13th we finally managed to Drive – In, the 9 hole shotgun went well, the winners being Robin Hill, Peter Lightfoot, Norman Craven Griffiths and Linda McKeown
These mixed shotguns are always good fun and my partners, Mary Steventon, Andy Rea and Robert Whittock, played really well and we managed to squeeze into the prizes.
During the evening, the outgoing Captains, Keith Gregory and Philippa Daniell, presented a cheque for an incredible £10,000, to their 2009 charity, Acorns. Congratulations to the Captains and everyone involved in raising such a wonderful sum.
Mary and I were pleased to announce the joint Captains Charity for 2010 as Guide Dogs for the Blind. Peter Holden from Guide Dogs gave a short introduction to the Charity and we hope that you will all support this worthwhile cause during the coming year.
The outgoing and incoming Captains drove off into the darkness, all of us managing to get passed the heather just in front of the tee. The last I saw of my ball was disappearing, with what appeared to be a perfectly executed slice, into the trees between the 1st and 10th fairways.
The new club diaries have been produced and for those that haven’t had them already, they are available in the corridor to the locker rooms. I think the new design is much better than the old ones and allows members more room to put their own activities and information in. Many thanks to all those involved in their production.
On the social front, an evening of 70’s / 80’s music and food is planned for 20th March, there are still tickets available so please contact the secretary’s office as soon as possible to secure your place.
On the course, we are planning a divoting party for the 21st April. This was extremely successful last year, helping to produce some of the best fairways in the county. We hope that many of you will volunteer to help, the more the merrier, further details on times etc will follow.
