Hi everyone
Happy New Year!
Everyone says the time goes quickly when you are Captain. I can't believe how quickly the first month has gone. The weather has not been kind to us, with the course being closed for nearly 2 weeks due to snow and the frozen ground not allowing the melted snow to soak in. Gary and his staff have been hard at work despite not being able to see any grass! The clearing of the hedgerow by the path from the 16th has
allowed a much better view of oncoming traffic on Crutch Lane although I still urge caution when crossing due to the speed of some cars.
The Captains Drive in is due to take place on the 13th
February, fingers crossed for fine weather. The entertainment is the wonderful Claire Andress, she has sung at the Club before and was very well received. If you are not coming to the meal but wish to watch the ceremonies then you are welcome to attend, we are hoping to start the formal part around 8.30 pm although if past years are anything to go by then that is a little optimistic.
For the Gentlemen the Captains Shotgun is on the 6th March,
you can sign up using the psi computer in the corridor. There are still a few places left in the various challenges against myself and the Vice, or Lady Captain; we would love to make a small wager on the outcome, with the losers making a donation to the Captains Charity.
Due to the present national financial situation with many people either losing their jobs or being on short time working, we are bound to lose a few members, I would urge members if they have friends who have been contemplating joining a golf club, then now is the time to invite them to apply to join us. For those playing at pay and play courses the benefits of no tee booking and rounds that take less than 5 hours must surely be attractive. Also there is the added bonus of a £100 added to the club card of the introducing member.
You may wish to improve your knowledge of the rules of golf, if so I have put on the Captains board some quiz questions as a fun way to test yourselves and your friends, the answers are underneath and I will update the questions regularly.
Best wishes and happy golfing for the rest of the year
Clive Allen
